When CBS released its spring 2016 schedule, “Person of Interest” was noticeably absent from the lineup. A CBS rep told TV By the Numbers that Season 5 will air “sometime this season,” a sentiment CBS president Glenn Geller expanded on during the 2016 TCA winter press tour Tuesday (Jan. 12) — but he added a tease about Sarah Shahi’s return.
“We ordered 13 episodes and we hope to get them on this spring, that’s what we’re targeting right now,” says Geller. “[Executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman] have planned a terrific season. I can’t wait for fans of the show to see it, it’ll be a real treat for the viewers.”
When asked about the return of Shahi, who went on maternity leave in Season 4, Geller tells Zap2it, “Yes! You can look forward to it with great gusto, she’s amazing.” When pressed for details, Geller played coy. “I think Jonah and Greg would kill me if I said anything other than it’s fantastic,” he says.
As for Season 5 being “Person of Interest’s” final season, which is what executive producer JJ Abrams previously said is likely, Geller says, “We haven’t aired the show yet, and I’m not sure.”
But he does add that the final Season 5 episode “could function as both a season and a series finale.”
