Person of Interest alumna Sarah Shahi has been tapped as the lead of NBC’s drama pilot Reverie, from the Extant team of creator Mickey Fisher and Amblin TV. Shahi was among the most sought-after actors for pilots this season, fielding a slew of offers.
Penned by Fisher, Reverie is described as a grounded and dramatic thriller about Mara (Shahi), a former detective specializing in human behavior who is brought in when the launch of an advanced virtual reality program has dangerous and unintended consequences.
Nancy Drew is not returning to television … for now.
On Monday, CBS announced it will not be moving forward with the new project Drew, featuring a grown-up Nancy Drew. News of the dropped pilot led to a Deadline reported that the series tested well but skewed “too female” at early screenings.
Sarah Shahi, who plays the lead character in the pilot, took to Twitter after hearing the news and thanked fans for their support, but also addressed the report about her show being “too female.”
“Some things are just not meant to be, but nice to know it tested well…,” Shahi, 36, posted on her Twitter. “Thank you for the [love]. I believe we need strong female role models. She def could have been one.”
Ray Donovan is gearing up for an L Word reunion.
Sarah Shahi will guest star on the Liev Schreiber drama alongside her former co-star Kate Moennig, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Shahi will play Hasmig, an Armenian pop star, opposite Moennig, who plays Ray’s assistant Lena. She is slated to appear in one episode. Shahi and Moennig’s L Word characters had a rollercoaster romance on the Showtime drama, which went off the air in 2009.
The actress joins an impressive list of guest stars for Ray Donovan’s upcoming third season including Ian McShane and Katie Holmes.
